The Letterheads were back in Portland in 2011.
Wallnuts Weekend
was 22nd, 23rd October
In October 2001 Letterheads congregated in the historic town of Portland, for "Wallnuts Weekend," during which approximately 50 signmakers converged to reproduce vintage advertisements.
They came back in October 2011.
In 2001, Ron Bidwell, the former owner of Portland's Bidwell Ads, hosted the meet because of his love of his craft and the desire to get together with his fellow "Heads." He coined the event "Wallnuts" because walldogs from days of yore had to be a little crazy to paint while hanging off a swinging stage.
The 'Wallnuts' painted 10 murals, that depict common Australian products from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Solvol Soap, Arnott's Biscuits and Bushell's Tea.
To celebrate 10 years the Letterheads returned to create another beautiful collection of 'Signs of YesterYear' around Portland - Food Works, Sues Purple Patch, The Crystal Theatre, and as many other buildings as time permitted had signs added.
Although many are retired and 60+, some of the original Letterheads returned in 2011.
